Hash Values
What is a File Hash Checker?
A file hash is a fixed-size string (a cryptographic checksum) generated from a file's contents. Even a single changed byte produces a completely different hash value — making hashes reliable fingerprints for file verification. Common algorithms include MD5 (128-bit, fast but not collision-resistant), SHA-1 (160-bit, deprecated for security), SHA-256 and SHA-512 (part of SHA-2, the current standard for integrity verification). Software distribution sites publish SHA-256 hashes alongside downloads so you can verify your downloaded file matches the original — ruling out corruption or tampering during transit. This tool calculates all hash types simultaneously so you can match whichever algorithm the source site provides.
How to Use the File Hash Checker
-
Click the drop zone or drag and drop any file onto it — the file is read locally, never uploaded.
-
The tool calculates MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, and SHA-512 hashes simultaneously.
-
Click the Copy button next to any hash to copy it to your clipboard.
-
Compare the copied hash with the checksum published on the download page to verify the file.
File hashing runs entirely in your browser using the Web Crypto API and SparkMD5. Your file never leaves your device. Works with files of any size and type — ISOs, executables, archives, documents, and more. Useful for verifying software downloads, detecting file corruption, and confirming backup integrity.
