What Is My IP Address?
Your public IP address is the address assigned to your internet connection by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). It's what websites, servers, and other internet services see when you connect. Unlike your private (local) IP address (typically 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x) which is used within your home network, your public IP is globally routable and visible on the internet. IPv4 addresses (e.g. 203.0.113.1) are the traditional 32-bit format. IPv6 addresses (e.g. 2001:db8::1) are the newer 128-bit format that provides virtually unlimited address space. Many connections today have both.
